Camp Cocoon is a weekend camp for children and youth, ages 5-17, who have experienced the death of a loved one. This camp usually occurs the first weekend in August and is held in Tallulah Falls, Georgia, at Camp Chattooga, the Y Camp for Girls which is adjacent to the Athens Y Camp facility. Campers have the opportunity to meet peers who are going through similar loss situations. They have the opportunity to share their stories and learn from each other while having fun in a safe and caring environment. Each day of our lives reminds us of the saying, "None of us will ever be the same!” and that is what Camp Cocoon is all about—change. Our lives serve up a huge amount of change. Camp Cocoon helps its participants to change from loss to life, from confusion to confidence and understanding, from tears of trauma to tears of joy, from personal misery to pleasant memories from cocoons to butterflies! The camp is fully staffed by healthcare professionals
consisting of doctors, chaplains, nurses, administrators, hospice providers
and nursing home directors, many doubling in their camping roles as moms
and dads. If you have a child, or know of a child who has experienced
a significant loss in his/her life, please forward their name and address
to us. We would be glad to encourage attendance at the next Camp Cocoon! Grief Activities for Kids & Those Who Love Them from Camp Cocoon A
